Student Success Advisor – Knowledge Hub Advisor / Disability Support

UCOL Wairarapa are looking for a Student focused, supportive and adaptive person to join the Student Success Team. The key focus of this role is to provide outstanding service to students and staff from within the library/hub, while also supporting students with impairments/disabilities on their learning journey at UCOL. The role is 40hrs per week and will report to the Senior Student Success Advisor and the Deputy Director of Operations

The Wairarapa Student Success team is passionate about supporting UCOL’s students. Their focus is on helping students achieve with a wrap-around support to aid their learning and wellbeing needs. You will be part of a team that works together to provide the right support for each student.

As the Knowledge Hub Advisor you will display a high level of customer service, flexibility, and enjoy working in a busy environment. You will be the kaitiaki of the library and Student Hub space, making sure that it is maintained and respected as well as enjoyed and well-used.

You can expect to spend the majority of your time in the Student Hub/Library, being a key place for students to hang out but primarily to study. You’ll engage with students, building relationships and assisting with everything from issuing books, finding resources or finding the right support for them on our campus. You will be involved in the planning and implementing of Student Success events, creating resources for our library and setting up displays. Although you will have a “desk” you will be expected to step out from behind it and create a positive, vibrant atmosphere for students, staff and visitors to our campus.

The Disability Support role requires you to have access to tools and resources (including knowledge of funding and support available) for students that need it. The assistance required is varied from mobility/accessibility to specific learning needs. Your goal is to help remove barriers for these students so they have a fair and equitable experience at UCOL Wairarapa.

The ideal candidate will:

  *   Be outstanding at providing an open and welcoming service to all students, staff and the wider community

  *   Have experience in working in Customer Service and/or experience in the disability sector

  *   Experience in working with students studying at various levels (certificate, diploma, degree)

  *   Show great observation and initiative

  *   Be organised, reliable and a real team player

  *   Have an understanding of Library operations

  *   Bachelor degree, or relevant equivalent qualification/experience

  *   Experience and knowledge of the Institute of Technology & Polytechnic, Education or Higher Education Sector in New Zealand Education preferred

  *   Knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for and application to professional practice in the New Zealand Institute of Technologies and Polytechnic (ITP) sector
