Permanent, 32 hours per week

We seek a suitably qualified person who has the passion, knowledge and experience in creating a learning environment that will contribute to the purpose of enhancing Pasifika Learners to succeed in their studies at Otago Polytechnic .

The purpose of this role is to provide pastoral, cultural and academic support to Pasifika Learners to succeed by creating a learning environment that is welcoming and understanding of the pressures of tertiary life.

You will have experience in supporting learners in an educational environment, demonstrating a deep understanding and experience of academic, career and pastoral needs of tertiary learners and understanding of effective approaches to support Pasifika Learners with their studies.

The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification at degree level preferably in Social Services, Counselling, Education, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or equivalent experience.

The applicant will have a demonstrated affinity and understanding of Pacific Island cultures and customs and of key issues facing Pacific communities in New Zealand, along with an understanding of learner's educational needs within the tertiary setting.  This role will be able to explore initiatives and approaches in trying to meet those needs.
