Contract: Permanent, Full time

Hours of work will be: Tuesday – Saturday 8.00AM - 4.30PM

Location: SPCA Centre – Hobsonville Auckland

SPCA is one of the best loved and most respected charities in New Zealand, with a proud history of helping animals in need and advocating for animal welfare since 1872.

Volunteers and foster families are integral to our organisation. They help us save the lives of the thousands of animals that come through our door every year. We simply couldn’t do what we do without these people!

Our volunteers help us with everything from caring for our animals to greeting customers or sorting donations. Our foster families provide temporary homes for SPCA animals as they recover from surgery and illness, and as they gain weight in preparation for being de-sexed and going out to adoption.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude to work as a Volunteer and Foster Coordinator at our new SPCA Centre in Hobsonville. This unique frontline position is the first point of call for our volunteers and foster families, for this reason you will need to have strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with anybody. This role is responsible for volunteer and foster recruitment, inductions and overseeing our Hobsonville volunteer and foster programmes.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task are essential. The successful candidate will be able to work both autonomously and in a team environment. This position will also provide support to other areas in the Centre, including our customer service and adoptions desk.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for working with both animals and people. The foster component of this role predominantly focuses on fostering cats and kittens. This includes daily animal care and regular animal handling, therefore previous experience working or volunteering with cats is essential. Shifts are from Tuesday to Saturday but it is preferable you are available to both cover and swap shifts if required.

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are essential
  • Animal handling experience and/or qualification required
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • A positive and friendly attitude
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Enjoys working as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills
  • Exceptional organisation and time management skills
  • Flexible, professional and pro-active team approach
  • Must be passionate about animal welfare and working with people

Are you committed to the values of the SPCA? Does this sound like the ideal role for you? If you match the above criteria, please apply!
