We are now recruiting a generalist Maritime Officer within our Southern Regional Compliance team. Based in our Dunedin office, you will work closely with our staff across the South Island and nationally to lead and support the maritime community to take responsibility for ensuring our seas are safe, secure and clean, on behalf of all New Zealanders.
As a Maritime Officer you will help to develop and maintain the national safety, security and environmental protection regulations that govern the operation of vessels, ports and offshore installations in New Zealand waters.
You will be motivated to support, encourage and require operator compliance with those regulations by licensing and certifying seafarers and commercial operations, educating the maritime community, auditing operators and service providers such as ship surveyors, investigating incidents to try to stop them happening again and enforcing the regulations to hold people to account for their actions.
We are looking for a self-motivated team player with a great attitude with very high levels of initiative, good communication skills and the willingness to be trained and supported through a great career at MNZ.
You will need to have as a minimum some or all of these key requirements:-
- A NZ domestic maritime qualification with relevant maritime experience in NZ
- Regulatory and compliance experience within Government or a similar organisation
- Have worked with, or show an understanding of MOSS
- Understand the application of relevant legislation within the maritime space
- Experience in educating and networking with a wide range of people and cultures
You will also need to be available to travel and work across NZ at sometimes short notice and you must also hold a current full and clean driver’s licence.
