Midwifery Lecturer/ Facilitator

Otago Polytechnic

Dunedin City - Otago

Otago Polytechnic wishes to employ a Midwife as a Student Practice Facilitator (SPF) in the Central Otago region ideally beginning 30 August 2010. The position will be 0.4 FTE (14.4 hours/week) based in Cromwell, working with students in Central Otago.

Our Bachelor of Midwifery Programme enables students to undertake the majority of their study in their own area through a blended delivery model of education. Students are grouped into "satellites" where we employ a local Midwife as a facilitator. As a Student Practice Facilitator (Midwifery Lecturer) you will have responsibility for teaching, assessment, student support, liaison with local Midwives and maternity services and as a member of the wider midwifery teaching team. You will also be responsible for co-ordination of student learning and practice in the Central Otago region. There is also an expectation of attendance and some teaching during the 'intensive' block courses which will be delivered in Dunedin. While tutorials and intensives are timetabled, other work can be managed flexibly.

We invite applications from practising Midwives with extensive midwifery practice experience, including LMC experience and a commitment to midwifery education and active involvement with the wider midwifery profession in New Zealand.

You must hold a current midwifery Annual Practising Certificate. A postgraduate qualification and a teaching qualification or teaching experience would be an advantage as would familiarity/experience with E-learning. This position will suit Midwives seeking part-time work to combine with part-time practice.

Applications close 13 August 2010.
